Product compliance in Thailand is governed by various regulatory bodies, ensuring that goods meet established standards for safety, quality, and environmental impact. The primary authority overseeing product compliance is the Thailand Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), which sets technical requirements and standards for a wide range of consumer products.
Manufacturers and importers are required to ensure that their products adhere to applicable regulations and standards enforced by TISI. This may involve obtaining certifications, such as the Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) mark, which signifies compliance with specific standards and regulations.
Additionally, certain products may require approval from other regulatory bodies, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food and pharmaceuticals, or the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) for electronic devices and telecommunications equipment.
Ensuring product compliance is essential for businesses operating in Thailand to access the market, protect consumers, and uphold legal requirements. By adhering to regulations and obtaining necessary certifications, companies can demonstrate their commitment to producing safe, high-quality products that meet the standards of the Thai market.
Product standardization in Thailand plays a crucial role in ensuring quality, safety, and consumer confidence across various industries. Governed by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), the process involves establishing technical requirements, guidelines, and certifications aimed at enhancing product reliability and compatibility.
With over 2,000 standards covering a wide range of consumer goods such as food, electrical appliances, vehicles, and construction materials, Thailand’s product standardization efforts are extensive and diverse. These standards encompass specifications, performance metrics, material quality, and testing procedures, providing manufacturers with clear benchmarks to adhere to during production.
By adhering to established standards, businesses not only demonstrate their commitment to quality but also gain access to certification schemes offered by TISI. These certifications, including both voluntary and mandatory marks, not only validate product quality but also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and consumer safety standards.
Overall, product standardization in Thailand serves as a cornerstone for industry development, consumer protection, and market competitiveness, fostering trust and reliability in the products manufactured and sold within the country and beyond.
The Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) represent a set of technical requirements established by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to guide manufacturing processes towards standardization and the achievement of optimal product quality. These standards encompass various aspects such as technical specifications, product characteristics, performance during operation, quality of raw materials, and testing procedures. Presently, there exist over 2,000 standards covering a wide array of consumer goods including food items, electrical appliances, vehicles, construction materials, and more.
TIS Mark
Product certification through the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is a vital component of Thailand’s commitment to ensuring quality, safety, and compliance across various industries. TISI offers rigorous certification programs aimed at verifying that products meet established standards and regulations, enhancing consumer confidence and market competitiveness.
TISI provides two primary types of product certification marks: voluntary certification marks and mandatory certification marks. The voluntary certification mark is available for manufacturers who seek to demonstrate their commitment to quality and compliance voluntarily. It signifies that a product has undergone testing and evaluation according to relevant standards, even if it’s not legally required to do so. Applicants can apply for voluntary certification at their discretion.
On the other hand, the mandatory certification mark is legally required for certain products to ensure consumer safety and regulatory compliance. Products falling under this category must obtain the mandatory certification mark to be produced, imported, and sold legally in Thailand. This mark serves as a clear indication that the product meets specific standards and has undergone necessary testing procedures mandated by regulatory authorities.
Certain products, in the interest of consumer safety, necessitate the mandatory certification mark by law. Products falling under this category must bear the mandatory certification mark to be produced, imported, and sold legally.
Through these certification programs, TISI aims to promote a culture of quality, innovation, and consumer protection within Thailand’s industries. By adhering to TISI standards and obtaining certification marks, manufacturers demonstrate their commitment to producing safe, reliable, and high-quality products that meet both domestic and international standards.
Overall, the Thai TIS product certification process plays a crucial role in fostering trust and transparency in the marketplace, benefiting consumers, businesses, and the economy as a whole.

In Thailand, the approval process for radio equipment is overseen by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). According to NBTC regulations, all radio equipment must undergo testing and approval at a recognized testing facility, which must hold accreditation under ISO 17025 standards, before it can be legally sold or utilized within the country. This procedure entails submitting a test report from the accredited facility to the NBTC for assessment, followed by a field test and final approval determination. The NBTC reserves the right to request further tests or inspections to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Upon successful completion of the homologation process, the equipment may receive either an unrestricted Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) or an unrestricted Class A or B certificate, based on the technology utilized in the equipment.
