Thailand: Restriction of the Use of Mercury

A new draft Ministerial Regulation mandates the following mercury-added electrical and electronic equipment to conform to TIS 3604–25XX (20XX) Mercury-Added Product – Restriction of the Use of Mercury.

  1. Button zinc silver oxide batteries
  2. Button zinc air batteries
  3. Inclination switches
  4. Temperature switches
  5. Electronic acceleration switches (G sensors)
  6. Overcurrent protection switches
  7. Switches and relays for measurement, control, and transmission
  8. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs)
  9. Linear fluorescent lamps (LFLs)
  10. Cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) and external electrode fluorescent lamps (EEEL)

The standard contains limits of how much mercury these products are allowed to contain.

The standard also contains requirements for technical documentation:

4.1 Technical documents for information for evaluating the classification limiting the amount of mercury used Use guidelines according to TIS 63000 or IEC 63000 and must include at least the following information.

4.1.1 General information about electrical and electronic equipment that is mercury-filled products

4.1.2 Documents related to all materials, parts and/or components that are of the same material, such as certificates or warranty cards, material declarations, analysis reports, test results, etc.

4.1.3 Evidence of equipment conformity evaluation and reliability verification Validity of technical documents

4.2 Technical documentation must be preserved. which generally should not be less than 4 years
