Saudi Arabia: Revised Technical Regulation for Auto Spare Parts.

Saudi Arabia has published a revised Technical Regulation for Auto Spare Parts.  Like the existing regulation for vehicle spare parts, it further makes them subject to the SASO conformity assessment.

It differentiates between original spare parts (defined as “Parts designed and manufactured as a replacement according to the manufacturer’s specifications with a specific function by the vehicle manufacturer or the manufacturer that manufactures the parts according to the same specification and quality control system of the vehicle manufacturer”) and commercial (common) spare parts (“that are manufactured as replacement parts for vehicles, in accordance with any international or European standards, country of origin standards, or the spare parts manufacturer standards, in order to achieve the performance requirements of the vehicle’s manufacturer, according to the parameters specified in SASO GSO 1712”).

Depending on the type of the spare part, it is either subject to a Certificate of Conformity or a Supplier Declaration of Conformity.

The regulation outlines the subsequent aspects: Definitions and Terminology, scope, goals, responsibilities of suppliers, labeling, procedures for ensuring compliance, duties of regulatory bodies, market research responsibilities, breaches and associated penalties, overall guidelines, transition provisions, and Appendix (enlisting standards, HS codes, and conformity modules).
