Emiratos Árabes Unidos: Nuevos requisitos técnicos para vehículos eléctricos

United Arab Emirates have published a new standard UAE.S 2698 : 2023 – Technical Requirements for Electric Vehicles.

The standard is applicable to electric vehicles exceeding a speed of 25 km/h, taking into consideration the relevant Golf standards and regulations. Its primary objective is to reduce the incidence of fatalities and injuries resulting from accidents attributed to issues such as electrolyte leakage from traction batteries, penetration of components from the traction battery system into the vehicle interior, and electric shocks. The standard outlines specific testing procedures and methods, encompassing impact assessments (frontal, rear, and side impacts) and test parameters to ensure protection against water infiltration. For instance, it stipulates that in the event of an impact, either no electrolyte should escape or only a minimal amount (less than 7%) may be allowed to do so.

Regarding the test conditions for water resistance, the vehicle manufacturer is required to adhere to the test procedures delineated in Annex 3. Annex 3 mandates that the resistance should remain below 0.1Ω after each exposure, even while the vehicle is still wet. Furthermore, it necessitates the repetition of the insulation resistance test after a 24-hour interval, with the requirement that the insulation resistance levels meet specified standards.
