Saudi Arabia: Update to the Technical Regulations for energy efficiency

 

Saudi Arabia has published updates to the Technical Regulations for energy efficiency – 05-03-16-156. 

This draft standard specifies the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), energy efficiency classification, testing, calculation, labeling, marking and registration requirements for electric mains-operated refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function, including appliances intended for the refrigeration of items other than foodstuffs. 

It applies to appliances operating on AC single-phase circuits of 230 V or three-phase circuits of 380 V or 400 V, at a frequency of 60 Hz, in accordance with SASO GSO 1899. 

The draft standard covers commercial refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function, including supermarket cabinets, commercial beverage coolers, ice-cream freezers, gelato scooping cabinets and refrigerated vending machines, subject to the exclusions specified in Clause 1 of the draft standard. 

The draft standard specifies minimum energy performance requirements, testing conditions, energy efficiency index calculations, annual energy consumption calculations, energy efficiency classes, energy labeling requirements and acceptance criteria for labeling and market surveillance.
