Indonesia: Updates to Halal certification regulation for products

Indonesia has published a draft regulation on the Renewal of Halal Certificates.

It is called Draft Regulation of The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) Number … of … on The Renewal of Halal Certificates.

It applies to all goods and services subject to the phased implementation of mandatory halal certification under Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance, including food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, chemical products, biological products, genetically engineered products, consumer goods used, utilized or consumed by the public, and services related to slaughtering, processing, storage, packaging, distribution, sales, and serving.

It is issued to implement Article 90 of Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System. It establishes the procedures and requirements for the renewal of Halal Certificates following changes to product ingredients, the Halal Product Process (PPH), or product development after a Halal Certificate has been issued. The regulation also sets out the eligibility requirements, application procedures, supporting documentation, and provisions governing the renewal process through an integrated electronic system. This regulation applies exclusively to domestic and foreign business actors that obtain Halal Certification directly from BPJPH and does not apply to Halal Certificates issued by Foreign Halal Institutions (LHLN) recognized by BPJPH.
