Mexico: New NOM Mexican standard for LED lamps
Mexico has published a draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-034-ENER-2025, Luminous efficacy of light-emitting diode (LED) tubular lamps for general lighting.
The Draft Mexican Official Standard establishes the specifications and test methods that promote the efficient use of energy and the interchangeability requirements for LED tubular lamps. It applies to all LED tubular lamps with G5, G13, and Fa8 bases, intended for general lighting, with a power rating of up to 125 W and a rated voltage of up to 277 V, that are imported, manufactured, or sold within the territory of the United Mexican States.
The following are excluded from the scope of application: lamps covered by another Mexican Official Standard regarding energy efficiency, as well as:
- LED tubular lamps that incorporate control systems/accessories such as photocells, motion sensors, or dimmable LED tubular lamps.
- Colored, color-changing, or decorative LED tubular lamps.
- Circular LED tube lamps.
- LED luminaires and LED modules.
- Black light lamps, insect repellent, infrared, for use in transportation, signaling, mining, plant growth, aquariums, anti-fragmentation, traffic lights, with integrated reflector, entertainment, photo projection, medical or therapeutic use, ultraviolet and germicidal.
The standard prescribes a NOM certification for the products in scope.
