Macao: Regulation of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP)

 

Macao has published Chief Executive’s Decision No. 168/2024 on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

It concerns a prohibition  on  the  import, export, and transhipment of chemicals listed in Annex I and goods listed in Annex II of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants to the Macao Special Administrative Region.

In accordance with the Decision:

  1. The import, export and transit of chemical substances covered by the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and listed in Table 1 attached to the Decision and which forms an integral part thereof, are prohibited.
  2. The prohibition referred to in the previous paragraph does not apply to chemical substances intended for use in laboratory research or to serve as reference standards.
  3. The import, export and transit of goods listed in Table 2 attached to the Decision and which forms an integral part thereof are prohibited.

The article 4 contain certain exemptions from the prohibition.
