Armenia: Draft amendments to the technical regulation for furniture
Armenia has announced its planned Draft amendments to the Technical regulation of the Customs Union «On safety of furniture products».
The draft was developed to bring it into line with the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, and adjust the conceptual framework in terms of defining concepts and requirements for furniture products.
One of the changes concerns the scope, which is now defined as follows:
“These technical regulations shall apply to furniture products placed into circulation on the uniform customs territory of the Union, including those manufactured to individual orders: items, sets, furniture suites for household and public spaces, as well as furniture used outdoors in residential or public areas and campsites.”
The list of exemptions is defined as follows:
- samples of furniture intended for display at exhibitions and for advertising;
- outdoor furniture fixed to the ground, building or building structures (benches, tables);
- garden swings;
- furniture for industrial premises (special-purpose tables, pedestals, workbenches and other products);
- collapsible metal shelving for manual and mechanized handling of container and piece goods
Regarding other changes, many further articles of the regulation have also received new wording.
Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Customs Union (TR CU) 025/2012 establishes the safety requirements that furniture products must meet before being introduced into the markets of Russia and other EAEU member states. Its primary objective is to safeguard consumers from low-quality furniture and unethical manufacturers.
Scope of TR CU 025/2012
This regulation applies to personal furniture designed for adults and children, as well as furnishings for trade establishments, hotels, sanatoriums, catering services, and financial institutions. However, it excludes medical, antique, used, and repaired furniture, as well as items for exhibitions, promotions, and transport purposes.
Proof of Conformity
If your business involves the production or supply of furniture products covered by this regulation, you must undergo a conformity assessment in accordance with the standards, either through mandatory EAC Certification or EAC Declaration.
Manufacturers and suppliers in the adult and household furniture sectors, including custom-made furniture for administrative offices, theaters, ships, cultural venues, railways, and other public spaces, are required to comply with the EAC Declaration of Conformity.
The proposed date of entry into force is not less than 12 months from the adoption of the technical regulation.
