South Korea: Consumer Chemical Products subject to Safety Verification

 

South Korea has published “Designation of Consumer Chemical Products subject to Safety Verification, and Safety and Labeling Standards Thereof”.

These products are designated and publicly notified by the Minister of Environment as deemed to be risky from a risk assessment conducted in accordance with the Consumer Chemical Products and Biocides Safety Control Act.

Individuals or entities seeking to manufacture or import products listed in the “Consumer chemical products subject to safety check” table must obtain safety confirmation from designated testing or inspection institutions every three years. Following confirmation from these institutions, they are required to submit a confirmation application to the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute.

Furthermore, individuals or entities intending to manufacture or import consumer chemical products subject to safety checks, for which safety standards have not been announced, must provide information regarding the chemical substances contained in the product to obtain approval from the Ministry of Environment. This requirement applies to products such as humidifier disinfectants, sterilizers and disinfectants for infectious diseases, other preventive disinfectants, insect repellents, prevention and attraction insecticides for hygiene, repellents for hygiene, and prevention insecticides for infectious diseases.

Additionally, individuals or entities intending to sell or distribute consumer chemical products subject to safety checks, for which safety has been confirmed or approved for the market, must adhere to labeling standards specified for labeling on the product surface.
