Mercosur: Changes of Technical Regulation for food contact materials

 

Mercosur has published the Draft Resolution No. 14/23 which provides for the amendment of Common Market Group Resolution No. 39/19 “MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on the positive list of additives for the preparation of plastic materials and polymeric coatings in contact with food”

The aim of the change is to incorporate two new substances:

  • Silvermagnesium-sodioboron phosphate (silver glass) – For use as an antimicrobial agent only. It should not exceed 2.25% (m/m) of the substance in the finished product. The silver content should not exceed 1.77% (m/m).
  • Diethylaminoethanol – Only for use in coatings or as a polymerization aid in plastics. ND (LD = 0.05 mg/kg)
