Japan: Revision of several product compliance regulations
Japan has updated four of its product compliance regulations: Consumer Product Safety Act, Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act, Gas Business Act and Act on the Securing of Safety and the Optimization of Transaction of Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
The main goal of the revision is to clarify that overseas operators that sell products directly to general consumers in Japan without going through manufacturers and importers in Japan are subject to regulations under the proposed technical regulations, as well as the introduction of regulations for children’s products such as toys in the proposed technical regulations.
The laws that are being revised are as follows:
- Consumer Product Safety Act (Act No. 31 of 1973)LINK
