Trinidad & Tobago: New compulsory requirements for electrical accessories and components
Trinidad and Tobago have published a National Standard which specifies safety requirements for all electrical accessories and components for use in the country.
It also specifies labelling information to be placed on the electrical accessories and components as well as information to be placed on the packaging for such accessories and components.
This standard applies to electrical accessories and components intended for use at either of the following nominal supply voltages:
- a) 115 volts, with a relative tolerance of ± 6 %; or
- b) 230 volts, with a relative tolerance of ± 6 %.
The standard does not apply to accessories and components designed exclusively for industrial purposes or accessories intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, e.g. the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (caused by dust, vapour or gas). This standard does not apply to electrical lighting products or electrical appliances either.
Among others, the standard defines:
- General requirements
- General labelling
- Caution markins
- Presentation of information
- Packaging
It also defines ways to demonstrate compliance: TTBS (Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards) shall verify compliance to the standard and electrical accessories and components under the scope of this standard shall be subject to a mandatory conformity assessment programme administered by TTBS. Further details of the conformity assessment programme are missing.
