Saudi Arabia: New Technical Regulations for Communications and Information Technology Equipment
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has published a draft Technical Regulations for Communications and Information Technology Equipment. It regulates topics such as Consumer information, labelling; Prevention of deceptive practices and consumer protection; Protection of human health or safety and Protection of the environment.
The Regulations are aimed at updating the technical requirements for communication and information technology devices and equipment to accommodate the most recent technological advancements. This will facilitate the delivery of cutting-edge communication and information technology services within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These specifications delineate the usage standards for all communication and information technology devices and equipment produced or brought into the Kingdom. Compliance with these standards is obligatory for all entities engaged in the manufacturing, importation, or sale of such devices and equipment within the Kingdom.
The Annex (1-a) of the regulation contains a list of all related standards relevant to the Communications and Information Technology Equipment in scope.
The compliance of ICT equipment in Saudi Arabia is controlled by the CITC – Communications and Information Technology Commission.
