Turkey: New regulation for wooden packaging

Turkey published a new Regulation Concerning The Subjection Of Wooden Package Materials To Heat Treatment Process And Their Marking.

The aim of this Regulation is to establish the necessary procedures and principles for preventing the transmission and propagation of pest organisms via wooden packaging materials. This Regulation encompasses guidelines concerning the application of heat treatment and the implementation of ISPM 15 marking, along with traceability marking, on wooden packaging materials intended for export. It addresses matters such as the issuance of permit certificates, licensed and non-permitted businesses, suppliers, users, permits for HT/DH heat treatment furnace installation, sales of marking apparatus, inspection protocols, and the responsibilities of businesses. The primary objective is to curtail the dissemination of detrimental organisms transported through wood-based packaging materials.

This Regulation exclusively pertains to wooden packaging materials that have completed the production stages and have undergone the eradication of harmful organisms. Additionally, it introduces the use of a security hologram, as elaborated in Articles 3 and 4.

Effective from June 30, 2024, countries that sell products to Turkey are mandated to provide information about the wooden packaging materials used in the products on the accompanying invoice. Alternatively, the invoice for the exported product should be accompanied by the heat treatment graph, printout, or report of the ISPM 15 marking application on the wooden packaging material, as detailed in Article 8.
