Trinidad and Tobago: New standard for electrical appliances

 

Trinidad and Tobago has published a new national standard PCTTCS 24:20XX Electrical appliances – Compulsory requirements.  It replaces the former standard TTS 76: Part 13: 2016.

It specifies safety requirements for all electrical appliances produced, imported or used in Trinidad and Tobago. It also specifies labelling information to be placed on the appliances as well as information to be placed on the packaging for such appliances.

The  standard applies to appliances intended for use at either of the following nominal supply voltages:

  1. a) 115 volts, with a relative tolerance of ± 6 %; or
  2. b) 230 volts, with a relative tolerance of ± 6 %.

This standard does not apply to appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes or appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, e.g. the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (caused by dust, vapour or gas).

This standard does not apply to lighting products or electrical accessories or components.

In scope are e.g.: Electro-mechanical domestic appliances, with self-contained electric motor, other than vacuum cleaners of heading 85.08. (HS code(s): 8509); Shavers, hair clippers and hair-removing appliances, with self-contained electric motor. (HS code(s): 8510); Domestic electrical appliances in general (ICS code(s): 97.030); Kitchen equipment (ICS code(s): 97.040); Laundry appliances (ICS code(s): 97.060); Cleaning appliances (ICS code(s): 97.080)

All labelling of the products in scope shall be indelible, durable, legible and conspicuous, and shall be in accordance with TTCS 19, Labelling of Goods – General – Compulsory Requirements and TTCS 20, Labelling of Goods – Prepacked goods – Compulsory Requirements.

The following information shall be marked on, or permanently affixed to appliances:

  1. a) the name or registered trade mark of the manufacturer or responsible local distributor;
  2. b) the country of origin;
  3. c) the model number or other indication of the model of the appliance;
  4. d) serial number where applicable;
