South Korea: New labelling requirements for remanufactured products

 

South Korea has proposed a Revision of the “Enforcement Rule of the Act on the Promotion of the Conversion into Environment-Friendly Industrial Structure”.

In accordance with the proposal, remanufactured product shall be labeled clearly “Remanufactured Product” on the surface and the container or the outer packaging of the product.

The general aim of the Act is to contribute to the conservation of environment and sustainable development of the national economy by positively pushing forward industrial activities to economize energy and resources and to reduce environmental pollution through the promotion of the construction of environment-friendly industrial structure.

A clear marking of remanufactured products may contribute to this aim.

In accordance with the Act, Products eligible for remanufacture shall be jointly chosen and publicly announced by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Minister of Environment among products or parts thereof which meet requirements and criteria prescribed by Presidential Decree, and other necessary matters, such as remanufacture processes of each product shall be prescribed and publicly announced by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
