Brazil published the Inmetro Ordinance No. 502 which consolidates conformity assessment requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) – safety helmet for use in industry.

The conformity assessment of Safety Helmets must be carried out by a Product Certification Body – OCP, established in Brazil and accredited by Inmetro, according to the requirements approved.

The Inmetro Ordinance No. 502 establishes the criteria and procedures of conformity assessment for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety helmet for use in the industry, with a focus on safety, through the certification mechanism, meeting the requirements of the ABNT NBR 8221:2003 standard, aiming to provide the proper product compliance in protecting the head, against impacts and aggressive agents, in industrial use.

The certification is based on the framework Inmetro Ordinance No. 200, of 2021 (General Product Certification Requirements – RGCP)

After the certification, the INMERO Conformity Identification Seal must be affixed to the product and packaging.
